Season 1 Archive
It's almost time for the longest running DJ battle to go down in Austin! To celebrate, we've got our interview with DJ Craze, the only DJ to ever win DMC three years in a row (before retiring from the competition). Episode 16 is our longest interview to date, but it was just too good to cut short; Craze is an idol to most of our instructors, and having the chance to sit down with him was one of the biggest highlights of our year. Enjoy!
With SXSW just around the corner, we decided to spend some time with the people who know it all too well. Episode 13 features Mahogany Dane, talking about her popular boat party Turntables on Town Lake, Episode 14 has ULovei dropping some SX pro tips, and Episode 15 is full of Richard Clinton's interesting experiences as the head of security at Fader Fort.
In Episode 11, Misa invites the multi-dimensional artist and founder of the Wiv Luv Humanitarian project, Raby. Join them on an informative, hilarious discussion. And, an exiting performance from Raby using her laptop, Ableton Live and magical voice.
Houston soul sensation, Kam Franklin, frontwoman of the band, The Suffers, joins Misa and our co-host Coffee Shop Criminals for Episode 10 at our Dub Academy Studios. Although, Kam may be our first guest not directly pinned to electronic music, she has been putting in work around our Texas music scene for a minute, collaborating with the likes of hip-hop artist Fat Tony, and Houston's prime Dubstep night, Gritsy. Get to know!
We're back for our first episode of 2015! Episode 9 features Austin producer Soundfounder as he joins us in the studio to talk about his producer collective, Exploded Drawing, his experiences with curating the music for Juiceland, and just how influential DJ Shadow has been to his life and his music career.
In Episode 8, we invite Austin's favorite ginger DJ, Bird Petersonaka Drankenstein, to chop it up with us. Listen in as we discuss Criterion Collection movies, the state of music and social media, and of course...animal facts! This is by far one of our favorite episodes-you don't want to miss the 93 minutes of greatness that we have in store for you.
It's almost time for our favorite Austin music festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest! To celebrate, we're rolling out three very special episodes leading up to the start of the fest. Our first special episode (Dub Pod Episode 5) is dedicated to the unsung heroes of live performances: Three production crew members divulge backstage war stories. Gain perspective on how they keep the show rolling and leave us with an incredible experience. For Dub Pod Episode 6 we interviewed a very special guest, the FFFF Taco Cannon. Yep, you read that right, THE Taco Cannon. And yep, it was as epic as we hoped it would be. Finally, in Episode 7, we bring DJ Trackstar from Run the Jewels into the studio for some music chat.
We had way too much fun in the studio for Episode 4, where we sat down with rapper/producer Click-Clack for some music chat. Topics include mixtapes, being a producer vs being a rapper, the importance of names, and sno cone face tattoos, because why not? Get ready to laugh, you guys.
In Dub Pod Episode 3, we sit down with Bames, a youthful dyad known for their psychedelic trap and filthy bass music, as they stop by the studio to converse about midnight snacks and their salad days while they give us some food for thought on their approach to making electronic music. Oh yeah, they also happen to be part of Fool's Gold Records, so there's that.
Dub Pod Episode 2 brings listeners into the world of musician Roger Sellers. In the episode, Sellers talks about his recently released album, Primitives, and gives us an intimate studio performance of two tracks from that album. Sellers also brought his buddy Josh Siebert, Mohawk stage manager, along, and they discuss the origins of their friendship and some of the comedy work that they've started doing together.
Dub Pod Episode 1 features DJ Buck Rodgers, Dub Academy DJ and Production instructor, 2013 Indianapolis Red Bull Thre3style Champion, and Texas Scratch League 2014 Instacuts Champion. The discussion includes Rodgers’ recent move to Austin from Indianapolis, his musical process, polar bears, and more.
